Bridge Builders Award Ceremony

April 10, 2008

April 10, 2008 – The 10th Annual Bridge Builders Award ceremony and grand reunion dinner announces a unique highlight that will bring together some of the nation’s leading activists to recognize leaders on a global scale of bridge building – forming partnerships to save our future on this planet.

Honored for building bridges of significance that promote today’s ever-growing demand for environmental consciousness, this years partnerships include: Texas Pacific Group, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Environmental Defense and Natural Resources Defense Council for collaborating on an environmentally conscious pact during the $45 billion buy-out of TXC Corp; Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Speaker of the California State Assembly Fabian Núñez for collaborating across party lines to enact a bipartisan environmental agenda; Andrew Taylor, CEO of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car for building a greener America with its partners: The National Arbor Day Foundation, the U.S. Forest Service, and Dr. Roger Beachy of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center; Enterprise Community Partners and its partners for collaborating to create the Green Communities program; and Christine Todd Whitman, former New Jersey governor and former director of the Environmental Protection Agency, and Parris Glendening, president of the Smart Growth Leadership Institute and former governor of Maryland, for their collaboration to create the Governors’ Institute on Community Design.

Former Vice President and Academy Award and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Al Gore, one of the first politicians to grasp the seriousness of climate change and to call for a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouses gases, has been invited to be the keynote speaker to address the importance of collaboration, from the grassroots to the corporate level, to promote positive climate change in every community.

Partners, based in Washington, D.C., will also honor two partnerships whose efforts to improve the livability of all in the capital region serve as national models of positive, local change: the National Children’s Museum and Milton Peterson; and The Johns Hopkins Center on Aging and Health and the Greater Homewood Community Corporation.

In celebration of the events 10th anniversary, Partners looks forward to reuniting all past Bridge Builders honorees with this new class of Bridge Builders partnerships. Partners will publish a public education kit featuring updates on all the projects and programs since the awards beginning in 1997.

The event is principally underwritten by Anheuser Busch.
