Matthew Chang Joins KKR Capstone in Asia as Managing Director Advances Senior Leadership Build-Out of Capstone in Asia

BEIJING–(BUSINESS WIRE)– KKR Capstone announced the appointment of Matthew Chang as Managing Director in China. Mr. Chang joins KKR Capstone from Roland Berger Strategy Consultants in Shanghai, where he was Global Senior Partner leading the firm’s Asian Operations and Restructuring practices. Mr. Chang will leverage his extensive operational and management experience to lead KKR Capstone’s engagement with KKR’s portfolio companies in China.

KKR Capstone is an operational team of highly experienced industry executives and functional specialists. The team works in partnership with KKR’s private equity investment professionals and portfolio company management teams to help maximize businesses’ potential and create sustainable improvements to generate growth, increase efficiency, and enhance capital allocations. KKR Capstone additionally leads the implementation of KKR’s Global Green Portfolio Program and other sustainability initiatives such as responsible sourcing which helps portfolio companies manage their environmental impact while also improving their businesses.

Prior to joining KKR Capstone, Chang was the practice leader of Roland Berger Strategy Consulting’s (“RBSC”) operational restructuring and operations team, and he was the leader for the firm’s Asia Pacific healthcare practice in Greater China. During his three years at RBSC, Mr. Chang served as lead Partner for five domestic and international private equity accounts, covering due diligence, post-deal improvement work, and deal screenings, primarily in the healthcare and consumer goods industries. He also delivered year-long restructuring and operations improvement plans to companies with a focus on sales and marketing turnarounds.

Mr. Chang has held senior management positions at AlixPartners, where he was China Managing Director, Diageo, where he was Asia Strategy Director, and McKinsey & Company. Additionally, he has 8 years of start-up experience across entrepreneurial ventures in international trading and internet ventures. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics from the State University of New York and an MBA from the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne.
